Why is the Lausanne-Montreux destination a sustainable destination?

Through the Lausanne Montreux Congress (LMC) organisation, the destinations of Lausanne and Montreux are committed to developing a sustainable business tourism.

For many years now, the towns of Lausanne and Montreux are strongly committed to respect values of sustainability, the environment and the individual. The field of tourism, and in particular conferences, conventions and events, generally has a high environmental footprint. Lausanne Montreux Congress has therefore decided to develop a sustainable strategy that serves today the interests both of the destination and its business visitors. This strategy offers many sustainable solutions for organisers and partners.

Lausanne Montreux Congress has joined the Swisstainable programme, and is developing it with its partners.

LMC joined Switzerland Tourism’s new national sustainability programme, Swisstainable.
Swisstainable, born of the fusion of the words “Swiss” and “sustainable”, is the name of the new communication strategy in the area of sustainable tourism launched by Switzerland Tourism in 2021. The strategy’s goal is that in the future, Switzerland will be perceived as a destination linked to sustainable tourism in the minds of visitors, by involving everyone – visitors and tourism professionals – to contribute to positive, long-term change.

It is thus a new way of travelling that is emerging, following a 4-point sustainability strategy:

  1. Enjoy nature up close in all its diversity.
  2. Experience the local culture.
  3. Consume regional products.
  4. Stay for longer and delve deeper.

Eco-friendly bags guaranteed Fair Trade

LMC has selected a long-term sustainable supplier with the Township bags. They are reusable, made of environmentally friendly fabrics and customisable.

Charity donations

LMC suggests that congress organisers fund a local charity, named Theodora, that acts for hospitalised children. Participants to the conventions are free to support this charity.
